Most people think scratches like this require repainting. This 4Runner came in with deep hood scratches that typical polishing wouldn’t touch.
Instead of recommending body shop work, we performed a multi-stage correction involving wet sanding, precision touch-up, and refinement polishing—restoring the finish while preserving original paint.

The hood had multiple deep scratches that extended below the clear coat.
A standard paint correction would improve gloss—but wouldn’t fully remove or hide the damage. Leaving it untreated would also allow contamination and possibly rust to worsen over time.
To properly correct the damage while preserving the factory finish, we performed:
• Targeted Wet Sanding: Carefully leveled the clear coat to expose and reduce deeper scratches.
• Precision Paint Repair Using Dr. Colorchip: Filled deeper defects to restore uniformity without repainting the panel.
• Paint Leveling by Post-Repair Wet Sanding :Leveled the repaired areas to blend seamlessly with surrounding paint.
• Compound & Polish Refinement: Removed sanding marks and restored clarity, depth, and gloss.
• 5-Year Ceramic Coating: Protected the corrected surface from UV damage, chemical etching, and environmental fallout
The hood was restored to a near-perfect, scratch-free finish with deep gloss and clarity.
More importantly, the repair was completed without repainting—maintaining factory paint integrity while significantly improving appearance and protection.
Many detailers will either:
Avoid damage like this entirely
Or over-polish the area, risking clear coat failure
Proper correction isn’t about removing as much material as possible—it’s about making the right decisions for the paint system.
In many cases, advanced correction can save clients thousands compared to repainting while delivering exceptional results.
